Fillers
Over time, the skin begins to lose elasticity, structure and volume, resulting in unwanted lines, folds, and wrinkles. Some of this loss is due to diminishing levels of collagen, elastic tissue and hyaluronic acid in the skin. Soft tissue augmentation with “fillers” temporarily replaces lost volume and restores a smoother appearance to the skin. Fillers are substances which are injected into the skin to improve expression lines, wrinkles and some types of scars and to enhance the lips and, in larger amounts, for volume replacement.
Filler materials have been available for over 30 years in this country. Currently, the most widely used fillers are composed of hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a normal component of the skin as well as other tissues throughout the body. The most popular hyaluronic acid fillers currently available are Juvéderm and Restylane, which provide more long-lasting results than earlier products. Voluma, recently approved by the FDA, is used for volume replacement on the face. Other types of fillers are also available including Radiesse and Sculptra. All of these fillers are temporary and the duration of improvement varies by product and area treated. Schedule a consultation to find out the best filler to achieve your goals.
